Orbbec Persee 2 RGB-D Depth Camera and Edge AI Computer
Orbbec Persee 2 combines an active stereo depth camera with an embedded Amlogic A311D computer, allowing developers to run vision applications on the device rather than relying on a separate host PC. Its six-core processor, GPU, and NPU work alongside an Orbbec ASIC dedicated to depth processing.
The integrated platform provides 4GB RAM and 32GB eMMC storage, a documented depth range of 0.2-10 m, and depth and RGB streams up to 1280 x 800 at 30 fps. Android and Ubuntu system support, wired and wireless networking, and display and peripheral connections make it suitable for compact interactive, sensing, and edge AI installations. As a self-contained RGB-D camera computer, Persee 2 brings sensing, application execution, and display connectivity into one enclosure for developers building interactive displays, people-counting prototypes, and local computer-vision systems. The integrated design reduces the need to accommodate a separate application computer beside the camera.
Features

Development and Integration
Separate Depth Capture from Application Logic
The Orbbec ASIC performs depth processing, while the Amlogic A311D provides resources for your application. Begin by validating the required depth and RGB profiles on the installed system, then build the application pipeline around those streams. Skeletal tracking, gesture interpretation, occupancy analytics, and dimensioning require suitable software and application-level validation; they are not implied turnkey functions of the camera hardware.
Plan the Display, Network, and Service Connections
Use HDMI 2.0 for a connected display and select Gigabit Ethernet or Wi-Fi for the network requirements of your application. The USB 2.0 Type-C connection is a service interface for debugging and firmware updates. Follow the English system installation guide for OS installation, and keep the SDK package, firmware, and embedded ARM environment compatible rather than assuming the newest SDK supports every older image.
Mounting and Thermal Planning
The removable mount and 1/4-20 UNC bottom interface support fixed installation designs. Keep the optical openings unobstructed and allow ventilation around the enclosure. Validate target distance, lighting, and temperature in the final installation; the documented ambient operating range is 0-35 °C, and the manual also limits the metal shell of the rear ports to 55 °C.
Application

Interactive Displays
Build depth-aware kiosks, educational displays, and gesture-based interfaces with suitable application software. The integrated processor can run the interaction application while HDMI connects to a display, reducing the number of separate devices in a kiosk or exhibit. Develop and validate the gesture or body-tracking software for the installed platform and the intended user interaction.

Package Dimensioning
Use depth measurements as inputs to a calibrated dimensioning application. Combine the captured geometry with a defined measurement region and an application-specific calibration procedure. The integrated camera computer can be evaluated for compact dimensioning stations, with performance checked against the package materials, mounting position, and measurement tolerances of the project.

People Counting
Develop occupancy and foot-traffic analysis software using depth and RGB inputs. Combine a suitable detection and tracking application with a carefully positioned camera to study entrances, activity zones, or occupancy changes. Evaluate occlusion and field-of-view coverage in the actual space; the software implementation determines the counting logic and reporting workflow.

Exercise and Motion Analysis
Integrate compatible tracking software for motion-feedback and rehabilitation research. Depth and RGB streams can support visual feedback applications when paired with validated motion-analysis software. The self-contained computer and display connection provide a practical development format for exercise demonstrations and supervised rehabilitation research, without implying medical certification or automatic clinical assessment.
Robotics Prototyping
Evaluate perception and object-sensing applications on an integrated camera-computer platform. The onboard computer lets developers evaluate local RGB-D processing before deciding how perception should interact with the rest of a robot. Use application-specific software for object detection or navigation research, and validate system timing and sensing limits separately from motor-control or safety functions.
Edge AI Development
Prototype local vision-processing applications using the embedded CPU, GPU, and NPU resources. Use the integrated memory, storage, and networking to explore how a compatible vision workload runs on an embedded platform. Select supported models and runtimes for the installed OS; actual inference performance depends on the model, software stack, and use of the available acceleration resources.
