LDROBOT STP-23L single-point ranging sensor - product view

LDROBOT STP-23L 7.5m Single-Point DTOF Ranging Sensor

19,90 €

LDROBOT STP-23L is a single-point DTOF ranging sensor for distance monitoring and embedded robotic perception. It measures from 0.03 m to 7.5 m and sends measurements through a UART interface.

A fixed 120 Hz sampling rate supports repeated distance acquisition without a rotating scan assembly. The compact module is suitable for developers who need a directional range measurement rather than a full 360-degree LiDAR scan.

The STP-23L distance sensor is suited to projects that need repeated measurements toward a selected target without collecting an entire surrounding scan. Its 6.8 g typical weight, 4-pin interface and 5 V nominal supply support consideration in compact embedded designs. A host reads the UART stream and applies the application-specific filtering, distance thresholds or sensor-fusion logic.

Features

  • Single-point ranging - Measures distance in one sensing direction.
  • DTOF measurement principle - Determines distance using the travel time of reflected infrared light.
  • 0.03-7.5 m range - Covers close-range and several-meter distance measurements.
  • 120 Hz fixed sampling - Outputs repeated measurements for real-time host processing.
  • UART data output - Uses 230400 baud with 8 data bits, one stop bit, and no parity.
  • 5 V nominal supply - Operates within the documented 4.5-5.5 V supply range.
  • Compact enclosure - The listed dimensions are 46.61 x 17.99 x 20.55 mm.
  • Small integration mass - The datasheet lists a typical module weight of 6.8 g.
  • Documented distance accuracy - The datasheet lists +/-15 mm accuracy at 0.03-1.5 m and +/-1% at 1.5-7.5 m, under its specified measurement conditions.
  • Continuous serial acquisition - The sensor sends measurements through its UART output; the documented RX pin is reserved for production use rather than normal user commands.

Application

Directional obstacle sensing

Measure target distance along the sensor viewing direction. Use the single-point measurement when a known direction matters more than a surrounding map. Align the optical window with the expected target and validate the response across the intended surface materials.

Robot clearance experiments

Evaluate separation from a wall or other representative target. Mount the sensor toward a wall or fixture and read successive ranges while the robot moves. This supports controlled clearance studies, but the module is not a substitute for complete obstacle coverage or a safety-rated protective system.

Embedded rangefinders

Read repeated measurements on a suitable serial host. Connect the 230400-baud UART output to a compatible controller and process the fixed 120 Hz stream. Verify the 5 V supply, connector pinout and signal-level compatibility before powering the module.

Distance monitoring fixtures

Track changes in target distance in a controlled test setup. The 0.03-7.5 m measuring range supports repeatable bench experiments on target position changes. Account for target angle, reflectivity and ambient conditions when setting acceptance thresholds.

Educational electronics

Explore time-of-flight measurement and serial data acquisition. Use the compact sensor to explore time-of-flight ranging, serial frame parsing and measurement filtering. Students can compare raw samples with host-side averages while learning the difference between sample rate and accuracy.

Sensor-fusion research

Combine a directional range measurement with other robot sensing inputs. Combine the directional measurement with wheel odometry, an inertial sensor or a separate scanning sensor in a research system. Define the sensing direction and coordinate relationship explicitly; STP-23L does not produce a 360-degree scan by itself.

FAQ

Does STP-23L provide a 360-degree scan?

No. It measures in a single direction. A rotating LiDAR is a different product type.

Is STP-23L interchangeable with STP-23L2?

This listing is for STP-23L. Check the model-specific wiring and protocol rather than applying STP-23L2 documentation automatically.

What is the sampling rate?

The documented sampling frequency is fixed at 120 Hz.

What serial settings should I use?

Use UART at 230400 baud, 8 data bits, one stop bit, and no parity. Check logic levels before wiring the host.

Can I issue normal user commands through RX?

The datasheet reserves RX for production use. It does not document user-side control commands through that pin.

How should I mount the optical window?

Keep the optical window exposed and unobstructed. Surrounding structures must not block either the outgoing light or its reflected return.

Does the GitHub resource replace the product datasheet?

No. It is a community XRobot integration example for reading the UART stream. Verify the wiring and hardware revision independently.

Are Ethernet adapters included?

This listing covers the STP-23L sensor. An Ethernet adapter is not listed as an included item.

What supply does the STP-23L require?

Use a nominal 5 V supply within 4.5-5.5 V. Supply voltage and UART signal level are separate electrical requirements, so check the model-specific pinout and host compatibility before wiring.

Is the full 7.5 m range available for every target?

No. Use the stated range as a specification under the documented test conditions. Target reflectivity, incidence angle, optical obstruction and ambient lighting can affect usable measurements; test representative targets in the intended installation.
