From Kinematics to Motion: Hands-On Robotics with reBot Arm

reBot Arm Robotics Workshop Series · Session 2

From kinematics to motion — on a real robot arm.

Session 2 of the reBot Arm Robotics Workshop Series shifts the focus deeper into robot motion itself. Building on our previous hands-on workshop around Physical AI, LeRobot, robot learning, and deployment, this session explores the kinematics that make robot motion possible.

We will connect coordinate frames and joints with forward and inverse kinematics, then use Pinocchio for robot modeling and MeshCat for motion visualization before taking the workflow back to the real reBot Arm.

Each session stands on its own. You do not need to have attended Session 1 to join; the goal is a practical path from core concepts to simulation and physical hardware, with room for questions and technical exchange.

What we’ll explore

We will move step by step from kinematics fundamentals to modeling, visualization, and real reBot Arm testing:

01

Coordinate frames & joints

Build the foundation for describing robot pose and motion by understanding coordinate frames, joints, and how they relate across a robot arm.

02

Forward kinematics

Trace how joint values determine the robot’s pose and turn a kinematic chain into a concrete end-effector position and orientation.

03

Inverse kinematics

Work backward from a target pose to the joint configuration needed to reach it, and see where practical robot-control constraints appear.

04

Pinocchio robot modeling

Use the open-source Pinocchio library to represent the robot model and calculate kinematics in a practical Python workflow.

→
05

MeshCat visualization

Visualize the robot model and motion in MeshCat so kinematic results can be inspected before moving to physical hardware.

06

Real reBot Arm testing

Take the modeled and visualized motion back to the reBot Arm and connect the software workflow with real robot behavior and testing.

Most importantly, this workshop is about exchange. We want to hear your thoughts, your questions, your use cases, and your honest feedback.

Workshop Flow: From Kinematics to Motion

A four-hour hands-on path from kinematics fundamentals to robot modeling, visualization, and real hardware. We will build the concepts first, implement them with open-source Python tools, and then connect the workflow to the reBot Arm.

Workshop flow

Kinematics foundations → Forward / inverse kinematics → Pinocchio → MeshCat → Real reBot Arm

  1. 01

    Kinematics foundations

Start with coordinate frames, joints, and the core ideas behind forward and inverse kinematics.

  2. 02

    Model with Pinocchio

Represent the reBot Arm in Pinocchio and use a Python workflow to calculate and inspect robot kinematics.

  3. 03

    Visualize with MeshCat

Use MeshCat to inspect the robot model and motion visually before taking the workflow to physical hardware.

  4. 04

    Test on the reBot Arm

Bring the modeled and visualized motion back to the real reBot Arm and compare software results with physical robot behavior.

Who should join?

This workshop is for people who want to understand how robot kinematics moves from theory into Python, visualization, and real hardware. Advanced robotics expertise is not required.
